We have been certified in accordance with the internationally recognized ISO 50001 standard since 2013. This certification is a testimony to our commitment to maintaining a comprehensive energy management system and to systematically and consistently improving our energy efficiency.
We systematically design our data centers to operate as energy efficiently as possible. After all, greater energy efficiency helps us reduce the impact on nature, our limited resources and your budget.
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a ratio that compares the total amount of energy used in a data center with the power used to run the computers. A PUE ratio of 2.0 means that the data center consumes just as much electricity for its entire operations (cooling, electricity, security) as for its IT systems. Swiss data centers currently have a PUE ratio of 1.8 on average. Nowadays, however, a score that high is considered obsolete and symbolizes wasted money. Physically rearranging the customers’ racks to optimize air-cooling efficiency and raising operating temperatures in the racks themselves are approaches that offer potential savings.

Green Eco and renewable energies
Entirely in keeping with the concept of green IT, the Green Eco option lets you take it even one step further to cover 100 percent of your electricity requirements with power generated by Swiss hydroelectric power plants.
Green Datacenter Zurich West has already received several awards for its exemplary energy efficiency: The “Watt d'Or” award from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) in 2013 as well as one from Initiative Mittelstand in 2016 for having one of the best Green IT projects.
We are making ongoing improvements to our energy efficiency by implementing a variety of different measures. Monitoring and optimization help us ensure smooth operation. We upgrade our infrastructure to ensure that the systems used are both state-of-the-art and energy-efficient.
A few examples: Cooling units are serviced on a regular basis and replaced by more energy-efficient machines as needed. The temperature in the room and air conditioning are monitored, optimized and stabilized 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We minimize power losses by using more efficient multilevel converter systems when converting high-voltage power.
